I had my 20th high school reunion last weekend! It was an absolutely incredible experience! I was part of a wonderful class, we were so tight growing up. Even now 20 years later it is incredibly special to be surrounded by such outstanding people. Even though I don't talk to many of them anymore, there is a feeling of camaraderie when I see them that I honestly can't explain. I consider them to all be family. In looking back at the Reunion I couldn't help but think of the Cyndi Lauper song "True Colors". We knew each other long before the bullshit of life would start to change us to the core! So many of us there that night are valiantly fighting life's battles from bad health, divorce, financial instability and job insecurity. These stresses of life change us, and if we are not careful they can define us. It takes someone who knew you a long time ago, to see through the darkness, to trust who you are at the core, not who you have become in the midst of the bullshit. Nobody grows up planning to get divorced, or lose a job or have a sick child, yet these events can discourage us from being who we are. For one night last weekend we could all see through the bullshit, "we found our true colors"!!
Check out the lyrics:
You with the sad eyes
don't be discouraged
oh I realize
it's hard to take courage
in a world full of people
you can lose sight of it all
and the darkness inside you can make you
fell so small
But I see your true colors
shining through
I see your true colors
and that's why I love you
so don't be afraid to let them show
your true colors
true colors are beautiful
like a rainbow
Show me a smile
then don't be unhappy, can't remember
when I last saw you laughing
if this world makes you crazy
and you've taken all you can bear
you call me up
because you know I'll be there
And I'll see your true colors
shining through
I see your true colors
and that's why I love you
so don't be afraid to let them show
your true colors
true colors are beautiful like a rainbow
On another note, I'm working on a life changer!! This one might be big, can't talk much about it now, don't want to jinx myself just yet. Check back for updates!!
Still playing hoop at the gym, I'm planning a run this week if it ever stops raining!!
Good luck, God Bless...ross
